My class 31 photographs - well some of them - mostly taken between 1979 and 1985. Whilst I was always very keen on 37s and 40s, it was 31s that did it for me !

On Saturday 1st September 1979, 31 005 rests at Hundred Road, March. It was withdrawn on 3rd February 1980 and cut up soon afterwards. The Stratford painted silver roof was in connection with a railtour in October 1977.

On 31st August 1979, 31110 seen at March depot, was one of many retaining the gangway connections. Originally D5528, it had spent time at 9 depots before transfer to Stratford in 1977. She was one of the 31s involved in eliminating hydraulic power when reallocated to Old Oak in March 1969.

31119, complete with number in its headcode panel, is seen resting at March depot on 6th May 1980. At the time it was an Immingham machine, but over its career became very well travelled. It is now preserved on the Yorkshire Dales Railway.
